Mathematics

Differential equations for JEE Main & Advanced — formation and order reduction

How JEE frames DEs from family of curves, and what to standardise before integration at each paper level.

On JEE Main

Main tests variable separable, linear first-order (integrating factor), and homogeneous types in single-correct MCQ format. Order and degree questions appear regularly; sloppy differentiation shortcuts cause wrong degree answers.

On JEE Advanced

Advanced uses multi-correct and integer formats where the DE is derived from a geometric condition (tangent, normal, arc length), requiring formation before solution. Watch for lost solutions when dividing by a variable.

How to practise

Use PracticeJEE's Differential Equations topic when you want compact drills after class notes.
