Physics

Oscillations and waves for JEE Main & Advanced — SHM, superposition, and sound

How oscillations link energy methods to wave chapters, and how each paper tests phase and boundary conditions.

On JEE Main

Main tests time period of spring–mass and pendulum systems, SHM energy graphs, beats, and standing waves in strings and pipes. Boundary condition questions (nodes at closed ends, antinodes at open ends) appear as conceptual MCQs.

On JEE Advanced

Advanced uses multi-correct formats combining SHM with energy methods, damped oscillations at a conceptual level, and superposition of waves with phase shifts. Integer-type problems may require counting harmonics or finding the beat frequency in a more complex setup.
