Physics

Units and measurements for JEE Main & Advanced — precision that saves marks

Why dimensional analysis and errors matter beyond Chapter 1, and how each paper sneaks them into estimates and lab setups.

On JEE Main

Main tests significant figures, combination of errors, and vernier/screw gauge readings as short MCQs. Dimensional analysis appears as a filter question — eliminate two options with wrong powers in under 30 seconds.

On JEE Advanced

Advanced uses this chapter inside experimental data questions: given a measured quantity and its errors, calculate the fractional error in a derived formula. Integer-type formats may ask for the number of significant figures in a computed result.

How to practise

Use PracticeJEE's Units and Measurements topic for short bursts after mock tests to tighten exam hygiene.
